For Teachers

We invite teachers working in international schools across South Korea to encourage their ELL students to participate in the Words Across Korea ELL Writing Competition. Students are welcome to submit any fictional piece that has been reviewed and approved by their ELL teacher. The focus of the competition is on creativity and storytelling skills, allowing students to express their imagination without being penalized for minor grammar and mechanics errors. This is a chance for students to take pride in their work and have their voices heard across the international school community.

Judging Rubric

Judges Needed

We are looking for teachers to join our panel of judges! If you are interested in helping us evaluate submissions and support young writers, please fill out the Judges Submission Form.

Important Information for Judges:
  • Blind Submission Process:
To ensure fair judging, we use a blind submission process. This means that you will not see any student names, only the submission ID and content.
  • Judging a Different Division:
To maintain anonymity, each judge will be assigned submissions from a division different from the one they teach. For example, if you teach middle school, you will evaluate high school submissions, and vice versa.
  • Expectations:
As a judge, you will be responsible for reviewing and scoring submissions based on the rubrics provided by Words Across Korea.

Community

We’re always looking to grow and improve the Words Across Korea ELL Writing Competition, and we value input from the ELL teaching community. Whether it’s ideas for future competitions, suggestions for new categories, or general thoughts on how we can better support ELL students, your contributions are important to us.
